Ebook About Where her daughter had played Gretel in front of a cheering audience, only two faint stage lights remained. The theater was deserted and eerily silent; the only sound she could hear was her own heart, pounding in a frenzy against her chest. She rushed outside and stopped sharply at the top of the stairs, stunned, her blood turned to icicles. Darkness had fallen, thick and filled with ocean mist, lampposts like ghosts sprinkling yellow haloes in the sky. Paige was gone. They’d taken her little girl. “Wow. I think I just fell head over heels in love with a fictional character. Tess Winnett is one of the smartest FBI agents and profilers I have come across yet and with analytical skills to rival Sherlock Holmes. Hats off to Leslie Wolfe for easily the best thriller I have read in this genre for many, many years!” – Manie Kilianon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The girl: takenAfter eight-year-old Paige disappears without a trace, FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett is called to investigate one of the boldest kidnappings the bureau has seen. The girl was taken from a theater filled with witnesses, in the middle of a children’s play. And no one saw anything. Starting a frenzied search and following leads that seem to suggest a link to the girl’s father, the state district attorney, Tess is stunned to learn of a ransom call that points to an entirely different motive, old as time itself: money. The first twenty-four hours: criticalFrantic for answers and painfully aware of each passing moment, Tess has a choice to make: trust her instinct and follow the leads that seem to indicate an organized crime connection? The Girl They Took by award winning author Leslie Wolfe is a totally riveting, heart-stopping kidnapping crime thriller in the Tess Winnett series. I’ve read this author several times before and she doesn’t disappoint. This is another superbly written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The threads of storytelling are so expertly woven in this mystery, thriller and suspense that it guarantees the attention of the reader. This is an absolute page turner from beginning to end. In addition, the characters are drawn by this author (as usual) with great credibility and conviction. The plot is intricately carved, as the synopsis suggests: ‘Where her daughter had played Gretel in front of a cheering audience, only two faint stage lights remained. The theater was deserted and eerily silent; the only sound she could hear was her own heart, pounding in a frenzy against her chest. She rushed outside and stopped sharply at the top of the stairs, stunned, her blood turned to icicles. Darkness had fallen, thick and filled with ocean mist, lampposts like ghosts sprinkling yellow haloes in the sky… After eight-year-old Paige disappears without a trace, FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett is called to investigate one of the boldest kidnappings the bureau has seen. The girl was taken from a theater filled with witnesses, in the middle of a children’s play. And no one saw anything… Starting a frenzied search and following leads that seem to suggest a link to the girl’s father, the state district attorney, Tess is stunned to learn of a ransom call that points to an entirely different motive, old as time itself: money… Frantic for answers and painfully aware of each passing moment, Tess has a choice to make: trust her instinct and follow the leads that seem to indicate an organized crime connection? Or give in to the demands of the parents and assist with the ransom payment?... The odds of finding Paige alive drop with every passing second and making the wrong choice would seal her fate. Her blood would be on her hands.’I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the story in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class crime thriller with perfect pacing. If you are looking for a well-written thriller with amazing characters and a gripping plot then ‘The Girl They Took’ will not leave you disappointed. As I mentioned before about this author, fans who like their action and adventure infused with mystery and suspense will enjoy the ride!Thoroughly enjoyed it, and highly recommended it. A well-deserved five stars from me. The abduction of of the DA's daughter, Paige, was done in a particularly slick operation. It is clear that the entire operation was well planned, with all kinds of alternate scenarios considered and planned for. A thoroughly professional job leaving next to no clues in the process.Except, the DA demanded that Tess Winnett be in charge of the FBI operations to find and recover Paige. Surprisingly so, too, as he has been quite a jackass to her up till now.And thereby follows a surprising series of feints and counter moves that had me in awe of the intricacy actually involved with this child kidnapping case. Right up to the last few pagesTrust author Leslie Wolfe to continue doing so book after book. The Girl They Took is eminently a thrilling surprise even for battle hardened Leslie Wolfe followers.Enjoy.
